String Chamber Music
The goal of the chamber music component will be intensive involvement with a few works that are being prepared for the Friday night performance. To accomplish this, ensembles will rehearse and be coached daily. We will examine how to build an interpretation and how to rehearse as an ensemble in a masterclass setting. There will also be listening and discussion of recordings of selected works in order to gain a fuller understanding of the components of chamber music.

Technique class
Each day’s work will begin with stretching followed by warm-up exercises on our instruments. The goal will be to find a natural and balanced approach to the instrument that respects the body.

Solo literature
Students will have an opportunity to play a solo piece and receive coaching. This will be emphasized to a greater degree with students who choose to come for two weeks.

Improvisation
This class will work at developing the connection between what we hear and the geography of the fingerboards on our instruments. Solfege and hand signs will be used to increase familiarity with scales and chords. On our instruments we will use worship songs as a basis for learning to improvise over chord changes. The components of this class include elements that have been or will be encountered in college ear-training and music theory classes.
